Letter Regarding Staff Member Ms. Emily McManus

Dear Parents and Caregivers: 

I am sorry to inform you that a staff member, Emily McManus, at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Middle School died on May 23, 2023. 

Death can be difficult for us to understand, especially when it is sudden. We may feel a variety of emotions: shock, sadness, or confusion. What is most important is that we care for and support each other. 

Today, our King Students will be informed of this unexpected news. The Coordinated Care Team / Student Assistance Program at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Middle School have made plans to respond to the emotional needs of all students. This will include circles in the classrooms, and the availability of our student support team staff, as needed. 

The death of Ms. Emily McManus may bring up feelings if you have experienced something similar recently. This is a normal experience and we want to provide assistance if needed. Please let your child’s Counselor or Social Worker know if there is any additional information the school should be aware of so we can provide the support you or your child needs. 

This difficult time can be stressful and confusing. A sudden death may be disturbing to you as well as to your child. It is for this reason that we especially want you to know of our care and support.

Estimados Padres de Familia Y Tutores Legales:

Lamento informarles que una miembro del Personal Docente, Emily McManus, de la Escuela Secundaria Académica Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Falleció el día 23 de mayo de 2023.

La muerte puede ser difícil de entender para nosotros, especialmente cuando es repentina. Podemos sentir una variedad de emociones: conmoción, tristeza o confusión. Lo más importante es que nos cuidemos y nos apoyemos unos a otros.

El día de hoy, nuestros Estudiantes de MLK serán informados de esta inesperada noticia. El Equipo de Atención Coordinada/Programa de Asistencia Estudiantil de la Escuela Secundaria Académica Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ha hecho planes para responder a las necesidades emocionales de todos los estudiantes. Esto incluirá círculos en las aulas y la disponibilidad de nuestro personal del Equipo de Apoyo Estudiantil, según sea necesario.

La muerte de la Sra. Emily McManus puede generar sentimientos si ha experimentado algo similar recientemente. Esta es una experiencia normal y queremos brindar asistencia si es necesario.
