Principal's Message Link to this section
Dear Families,
I hope this finds you well and that your child enjoyed the two days off to commemorate Lunar New Year.
This month starts Black History celebrations. Here at MEC we will be learning about famous African Americans as well as famous Latinos of African descent. It is always a fun month of learning how the African Diaspora has impacted our history and culture.
This month we have two dates will most likely not experience again in our lifetimes. Today is 02/02/2022 and we will again have 02/22/2022. We hope to have some fun activities later this month to celebrate these days.
Please be sure to connect with Ms. Adelina regarding applications for next year if your child is moving on to another school. The deadline for the first round is this Friday.
I am so excited and pleased to announce that MEC will be opening a Transitional Kindergarten next school year. It will be the only bilingual Transitional Kindergarten in SFUSD, for now. Transitional Kindergarten is for children who are 5 but have missed the cut of date to enroll in Kindergarten. The program will be much like our Pre-K in that it will be a bilingual class and open to both Spanish and English speakers. If you have any friends that are interested in the program, please contact us and we can share more information about it!
Last Friday we had a visit from an author and local Kindergarten teacher,Araceli de Leon. She read her book and presented it to our 3rd through 5th grade students. It was fantastic! Please ask your child to tell you all about it.
Please be sure to do a Covid health screening with your child daily before coming to school. We want to be sure to keep everyone safe and healthy. We also realize that sending kids or staff home is quite disruptive. If your child is sent home or needs to stay home for isolation, please be sure to have them read every day for at least 20 minutes. They should also have a packet or workbooks of materials to keep them engaged academically. If you have questions, please be sure to contact the school or your child's teacher. We are more than happy to provide suggestions on how to keep your child engaged academically.
I am wishing you a safe and happy week!
Warmly,
Ms. Vasquez
