Letter to MLK Community regarding Cyberbullying Incident

Dear MLK Community:

We have recently been made aware of several photos that a current staff member at our school had posted to their personal, private social media account before joining the MLK community. There is nothing illegal in the photos, and the staff member had taken them off their account prior to working in our school. However, the photos have resurfaced and are being shared by several students. Please be advised that any students who participate in sharing these photos will face serious consequences, including possible suspension.

In the MLK community and in SFUSD, we welcome people of all backgrounds, and do not tolerate hate, bullying, and cyber bullying especially for somebody’s race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. We also hope this serves as a good lesson for students about how the things they post on the internet when they are young do not disappear, and can be used against them later when they are adults.

Estimada Comunidad Escolar de MLK:

Recientemente nos enteramos de varias fotos que un miembro actual del personal de nuestra escuela había publicado en su cuenta personal y privada en redes sociales antes de unirse a la Comunidad Escolar de MLK. No hay nada ilegal en las fotos y el miembro del personal ya las había eliminado de su cuenta personal antes de trabajar en nuestra escuela. Sin embargo, tales fotos han vuelto a resurgir y varios estudiantes las están compartiendo. Tomar en cuenta que cualquier estudiante que participe en compartir estas fotos enfrentará graves consecuencias, incluida la posible suspensión.

En la Comunidad Escolar de MLK y en SFUSD, damos la bienvenida a personas de todos los orígenes y no toleramos odio, acoso y acoso cibernético, especialmente por raza, género, religión u orientación sexual de alguien. También esperamos que esto sirva como una buena lección para los estudiantes sobre cómo las cosas que publican en Internet cuando son jóvenes no desaparecen y pueden usarse en su contra más adelante cuando sean adultos.
