Emergency Drill Message 2024-2025

Dear Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Middle School Community:

Happy new school year! We are excited to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year, and look forward to serving you and your children as we continually strive to provide a safe learning environment for everyone at school. 

The safety of your child and all children in our school as well as the safety of the school staff and support personnel is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures. 

As part of our commitment to school safety measures, please be advised that we will be conducting various drills throughout the school year. This letter is to help you understand the importance of safety preparedness in our school as well as to understand each type of drill.

The students and staff of our school will be practicing 4 primary emergency drills each year.  They are “FIRE DRILLS + EVACUATION”; “LOCKDOWN DRILLS”; “SECURE DRILLS”, and “EARTHQUAKE DRILLS”.  Each type of drill is explained below.

FIRE DRILLS + (EVACUATION)

Schools serving Pk-8 students will conduct a Fire Drill each month that school is in session. Schools serving HS students will conduct a Fire Drill each semester that school is in session  This is a Fire Code requirement as well as a requirement for all California public schools.  We want each student to understand and be aware of the importance of this drill and not be afraid when the fire alarm is sounded.  By practicing they will know what to do and how to do it.

During an “Evacuation Drill”, students will be safely escorted along a designated evacuation route to one of our predetermined evacuation sites.  At the conclusion of the drill, all students will be escorted back to the building and their classrooms.

For the safety of everyone involved and to maintain order, we respectfully ask that you would abide by the following during these drills:

• Do not come to the school campus
• Do not call the school offices (as they will be busy with the drill or actual emergency)
• Do not contact students or staff members via cell phone or social media (as they will be busy with the drill or actual emergency)
• Please make sure that your contact information is up-to-date at all times so that you can be reached without delay in the event of an emergency.
• In the event of an actual emergency evacuation, you will receive notification where to pick up your child as soon as practicable.

LOCKDOWN

The school will conduct one Lockdown Drill each semester during the school year.  A lockdown is initiated when there is a threat of violence or harm to stakeholders identified ON campus, and is designed to prevent the perpetrator(s) from entering any occupied campus areas. During a lockdown, students are to remain in the locked classrooms or designated safe locations at all times.

SECURE

The school will conduct one Secure Drill each semester during the school year.  This type of drill will secure the exterior of the school building and safely shelter all students, staff and visitors inside.  A secure action is initiated when there is danger OFF campus and is designed to prevent any harm to stakeholders by locking the perimeter doors and gates so no one is able to leave, nor enter while the incident off campus is still active.  

EARTHQUAKE (Dop, Cover & Hold)

The school will conduct one Earthquake Drill each semester.  In the event of an earthquake, staff and students should drop under their desks, cover their head and hold until the earthquake subsides.  Additionally, students and staff may be asked to evacuate the building depending on the severity of the earthquake.

Please remember that these safety practice drills are done to help maintain our schools as a safe place to learn and work.

作為我們對學校安全措施承諾的一部分，請注意，我們將在整個學年期間進行各種演習。本函旨在幫助你明白我校安全準備工作的重要性，以及了解各種類型的演習。

我校師生每年都會進行4種主要緊急事故演習，包括: “火警演習 + 緊急疏散演習”；“校內緊急戒嚴(LOCKDOWN)演習”；“安全對外封鎖(SECURE)演習”，以及“地震演習”。每種類型演習之說明如下: 

火警演習 + (緊急疏散演習)

服務學前班至8年級學生的學校將每月進行火警演習一次 (只上學日子)。服務高中生的學校則在每個學期進行火警演習一次 (只上學日子)。這些演習是消防法規的要求，也是州府對所有公校的規定。我們希望每個學生都能了解並意識到這種演習的重要性，以助他們在火警警報響起時處變不驚。透過練習，他們會知道該做什麼，以及如何去做。

在“緊急疏散演習”期間，我們將沿指定的疏散路線，安全護送學生到預先確定的其中一個疏散地點。演習結束後，我們將護送所有學生回校舍和課室。

為確保各人的安全，並維護秩序，我們懇請大家在演習過程期間遵守以下規定：

• 切勿前來校園
• 切勿致電學校校務處 (因為他們將忙於演習或真正的緊急情況)
• 切勿透過手機或社交媒體聯絡學生或教職員 (因為他們將忙於演習或真正的緊急情況）
• 請確保學校時刻存有你的最新聯絡資料，以便在發生緊急事故時能立即聯繫你。
• 如果發生真正的緊急疏散情況，我們將盡快在可行的情況下通知你，以便大家得知前往哪裡接走子女。

校內緊急戒嚴演習

在學年期間，學校將每學期進行校內緊急戒嚴演習一次。當校內出現持份者受到暴力或傷害威脅的情況時，學校就會啟動校內緊急戒嚴。這措施旨在防止肇事者進入任何有人在場的校園範圍。在校內緊急戒嚴期間，學生須全程留在上鎖的課室內或指定的安全地點。

安全對外封鎖演習

在學年期間，學校將每學期進行安全對外封鎖演習一次。這類型的演習將防護校舍外圍的安全，並保護校內所有學生、教職員和訪客的安全。當校外出現危險情況時，學校就會啟動安全對外封鎖。這措施旨在透過鎖上學校四周的門戶及大閘來防止校內持份者受到任何傷害，因此任何人都不准進出校舍 (當校外事故仍在處理中)。  

地震演習 (蹲下、掩護與捉緊)

每學期，學校將進行地震演習一次。 發生地震時，教職員和學生應躲到桌底下，掩護頭部，並捉緊，直到地震停止。此外，根據地震的嚴重程度，學生和教職員可能會被要求撤離校舍。

請謹記，進行這些安全措施演習旨在幫助我校維持一個安全的學習和工作環境。

¡Feliz nuevo año escolar! Nos complace darle la bienvenida al año escolar 2024-2025 y esperamos poder servirle a usted y a sus hijos mientras nos esforzamos continuamente por brindar un entorno de aprendizaje seguro para todos en la escuela. 

La seguridad de su hijo y de todos los niños en nuestra escuela, así como la seguridad del personal de la escuela y del personal de apoyo, es muy importante para nosotros. Con el fin de mantener un ambiente seguro para que nuestros niños estudien y aprendan, es necesario que practiquemos nuestros planes de respuesta a emergencias y crisis mediante simulacros diseñados para ejercitar nuestros procedimientos. 

Como parte de nuestro compromiso con las medidas de seguridad escolar, tenga en cuenta que realizaremos varios simulacros durante el año escolar. Esta carta es para ayudarle a comprender la importancia de la preparación de seguridad en nuestra escuela, así como a comprender cada tipo de simulacro.

Los estudiantes y el personal de nuestra escuela practicarán 4 simulacros de emergencia primaria cada año.  Estos son “SIMULACROS DE INCENDIO + EVACUACIÓN”; “SIMULACROS DE CIERRES DE EMERGENCIA”; “SIMULACROS DE SEGURIDAD”, y “SIMULACROS DE TERREMOTO”.  Cada tipo de taladro se explica a continuación.

SIMULACROS DE INCENDIO + (EVACUACIÓN)

Las escuelas que atienden a estudiantes de Pk a 8⁰ grado realizarán un simulacro de incendio cada mes que la escuela esté en sesión. 

Las escuelas que atienden a estudiantes de la escuela secundaria realizarán un simulacro de incendio cada semestre que la escuela esté en sesión. Este es un requisito del Código de Incendios, así como un requisito para todas las escuelas públicas de California.  Queremos que cada estudiante comprenda y sea consciente de la importancia de este simulacro, y no tenga miedo cuando suene la alarma de incendio.  Practicando sabrán qué hacer y cómo hacerlo.

Durante un "Simulacro de Evacuación", los estudiantes serán escoltados de manera segura a lo largo de una ruta de evacuación designada a uno de nuestros sitios de evacuación predeterminados.  Al finalizar el simulacro, todos los estudiantes serán acompañados de regreso al edificio y a sus aulas.

Para la seguridad de todos los involucrados y para mantener el orden, le pedimos respetuosamente que cumpla con lo siguiente durante estos simulacros:

• No vengas al campus de la escuela.
• No llame a las oficinas de la escuela (ya que estarán ocupadas con el simulacro o la emergencia real)
• No se comunique con estudiantes o miembros del personal a través de teléfonos celulares o redes sociales (ya que estarán ocupados con el simulacro o la emergencia real)
• Asegúrese de que su información de contacto esté actualizada en todo momento para que podamos comunicarnos con usted sin demora en caso de una emergencia.
• En caso de una evacuación de emergencia real, recibirá una notificación sobre dónde recoger a su hijo lo antes posible.

CIERRE DE EMERGENCIA

La escuela llevará a cabo un simulacro de cierre de emergencia cada semestre durante el año escolar.  Un cierre de emergencia se inicia cuando existe una amenaza de violencia o daño a las partes interesadas identificadas EN el plantel escolar, y está diseñado para evitar que los perpetradores entren a cualquier área ocupada del plantel escolar. Durante un cierre de emergencia, los estudiantes deben permanecer en las aulas cerradas con llave o en lugares seguros designados en todo momento.

SIMULACROS DE SEGURIDAD

La escuela llevará a cabo un simulacro de seguridad cada semestre durante el año escolar.  Este tipo de simulacro asegurará el exterior del edificio escolar y albergará de manera segura a todos los estudiantes, personal y visitantes en el interior.  Se inicia una acción de cierre de seguridad cuando hay peligro FUERA del plantel escolar, y está diseñada para evitar cualquier daño a las partes interesadas al cerrar las puertas y portones perimetrales para que nadie pueda salir ni entrar mientras el incidente fuera del plantel escolar aún esté activo.  

TERREMOTO (Agacharse, Cubrirse y Sostenerse)

La escuela llevará a cabo un simulacro de terremoto cada semestre.  En caso de un terremoto, el personal y los estudiantes deben agacharse debajo de sus escritorios, cubrirse la cabeza y aguantar hasta que el terremoto amaine.  Además, es posible que se solicite a los estudiantes y al personal que evacuen el edificio dependiendo de la gravedad del terremoto.

Por favor, recuerde que estos simulacros de prácticas de seguridad se realizan para ayudar a mantener nuestras escuelas como un lugar seguro para aprender y trabajar.
