Assessment is meaningful when teachers use it to inform instruction and make decisions based on students' demonstrated mastery of curriculum and standards.

Every assessment should be designed and administered to gather evidence of student learning that will guide specific future decisions.

Gateway to understanding student scores on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).This website uses score reports to better understand your student's strengths and areas in need of improvement. For all tests, the score reports are broken down into different performance areas—such as reading and problem solving—to identify where each student is excelling or needs more support

Viewing and Understanding SBA Item Types Smarter Balanced assessments use a variety of item types to accurately measure what students know and can do. Use the SBA Item Types website to learn more and see example items.

Smarter Content Explorer Use the SBA content explorer to learn how test items connect to academic standards. 

Smarter Balanced: sample questions by grade level and item types Find questions by grade, subject, claim and target.

Blueprint The Smarter Balanced blueprint describes the ELA or math standard assessed and the number of items on each assessment section.

CAASPP Practice Test  The practice test is a brief ungraded version of the Smarter Balanced Assessments. The practice test has the same format as the actual assessments, and looks and feels like the actual assessments.
