Inclusive Schools Week Content
SFUSD Physical Education and Activity Department is partnering with Special Olympics Northern California to provide resources and activities throughout Inclusive Schools Week (December 5th - 9th). This year’s theme is "Unity within our Community", and we are asking all PE teachers to provide 1-2 inclusive lesson plans throughout the week.
In addition to lesson plans, you can sign up to receive a RESPECT banner and a set of inclusion banners and/or host a Special Olympics athlete speaker assembly

School-Wide and Classroom Activities K - 12:
RESPECT Banner Signing:
SFUSD Physical Education and Special Olympics are providing RESPECT banners for any schools interested in having their students sign the banner and take the pledge to show respect. This can be a great way to end a lesson, and afterward, you can proudly display the banner anywhere in your school!
Inclusion Posters:
Grab yourself a set of inclusion posters to hang and highlight throughout your school’s campus! With the Caring Community Inclusion Series, you can display posters that deliver kind and inclusive messages, and with the Inclusion Heroes Series, you can highlight different inclusion advocates and heroes within the disability movement.

Athlete Speaker Assembly:
Invite a Special Olympics Athlete Speaker to come speak to you about the Special Olympics and their journey with inclusion!
A general outline of what this assembly looks like is below:
- Time: ~45 minutes
- Format:
- Special Olympics Video (5-10 minutes)
- Athlete Speaker Speech (~10 minutes)
- Q&A (10-15 minutes)
We encourage host schools to make the assembly their own! That could be showing your own presentation, inviting the Principal or teacher to say a few words, showing a cool video, or even leaving time at the end for a dance party!
We will try to accommodate as many requests as we can during Inclusive School Week but this will be dependent on athlete availability. If we are not able to meet your request during the week, we can look at another time during the year. Requests will be filled on a first come first serve basis, so register as soon as possible!
