Cell Phone and Electronics
Cell Phone and Electronics (ipads, tablets, laptops, etc.) Use:
Cell phones should not be used while on school campus. If, for emergency purposes, you send your students to school with a cell phone, it must be off and in their backpack while at school. Every room at our school has a landline phone if it is absolutely necessary. A student’s cell phone will be confiscated:
- anytime a student uses, looks at, or interacts with a phone—whether it is their phone or the phone of another student—for any purpose (calling, texting, social media, checking time, etc.)
- anytime a student lends their phone to another student
- anytime the phone disrupts learning (rings, alarm goes off, etc.).
School staff will respond the following way when cell phones, electronics, or toys or electronics are out:
- 1st time: Phone is confiscated and held on to until the end of the day. Family is contacted and cell phone is returned.
- If the student does not pass over the cell phone to staff, then the staff will respond as if it is the 2nd time.
- 2nd time: Phone is confiscated and held on to for up to one week (per SFUSD policy). Family is contacted and will meet with the school team before the phone is returned.
- 3rd time: Phone is confiscated and held onto until a formal agreement is reached for the student to no longer bring a cell phone or electronic device to school.
