Ensure that all virtual meetings, events and professional learning opportunities are accessible to everyone in our SFUSD community by following the norms and guidelines provided on this page.

Facilitators/Hosts/Coordinators
Before the Event
- Top 8 Tips for Facilitators Planning a PD (slides)
- Submit to PD Calendar two weeks prior to event/session/meeting
- For District-wide events larger than 50 people request two ASL interpreters and one captioner
- Schedule a co-facilitator or moderator to liaise with Deaf participants and interpreters during the event
- Include notice in your calendar event that indicates if interpretation and captioning services are scheduled
- Provide additional time for event to accommodate coordination among Deaf participants and service providers
- Follow guidelines for creating accessible materials
- Update Zoom and review platform guidance
During Session
- Top 7 Tips for Facilitators Leading a PD (slides)
- Expect to immediately pause content delivery if notified that services are interrupted during the session
- Follow guidelines for supporting ASL interpretation and captioning in virtual meetings
Deaf Participants attending PD
Before Event
- At least 2-weeks before event communicate with event host and/or submit request for ASL interpretation or live captioning
- Update Zoom and review platform guidance
During Session
- Use Multi-pin or Spotlight (request co-host role) feature to view Interpreters and Facilitator/Presenter.
- Turn on Captions or Transcripts as desired
Service Providers: ASL Interpretation or Live Captioning
Before Event
- Update Zoom and review platform guidance
- Sign in to Zoom and edit profile to include [Interpreter] or [Captioner] in your screen name.
- Captioning: Review documentation for closed captions in Zoom
During Session
- Open chat or text communication channel with Deaf colleague (and other interpreters/captioners) to ensure they can access services and communicate about Breakout Room assignments
- Follow guidelines for supporting ASL interpretation and captioning in virtual meetings
