- About Marine Applied Research and Exploration (MARE)
At MARE, we deploy deep-diving robotic submarines, known as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), to assess ocean health from the bottom up. Our mission is to bring science into action by providing essential deep-ocean data that informs resource management. Beyond our scientific exploration, we are committed to engaging youth and the public in ocean science, aiming to inspire long-term environmental stewardship. Our Deep-Sea Education program specifically focuses on creating accessible pathways for California’s Bay Area students to explore careers in marine technology, engineering, and conservation. - MARE’s Deep Sea Education Program (Grades 6-12): Presentation Series. We offer highly adaptable STEAM presentations, led by MARE staff, that can be customized to meet your classroom needs. These sessions include up to 110 minutes of engaging science lectures and interactive lab activities designed to immerse students in topics such as engineering, ocean conservation, and deep-sea ecology. Through hands-on labs, students will develop critical thinking skills, practice data collection and interpretation, and delve into the engineering design process. Our programs can be tailored to fit one or multiple class periods, depending on your educational objectives. Best of all, our programs are completely FREE for public schools in the SF Bay Area.
