About the EETD Grant
Tuition Support Stipends
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The EETD Grant is designed to support a portion of the tuition costs for SFUSD's current and future early educator workforce. EETD Grant Tuition Support Stipends will be awarded to candidates intending to advance their career as a California State Preschool or Transitional Kindergarten Teacher employed within San Francisco Unified School District. The grant is divided into four different tracks designed to support specific career goals described below.

Track 1: Early Education/Child Development
Tuition Support Stipend: $150 per unit, not to exceed $3,600 per person.
- For SFUSD teachers needing early childhood development units to teach Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Teachers do not need to be assigned to TK to participate in this track
Track 2: Credential Pathway
Tuition Support Stipend: $300 per unit, not to exceed $9,000 per person
- For SFUSD early educators interested in obtaining a Multiple Subject, Preschool to Third Grade (PK-3), or Early Childhood Special Education Teaching Credential required to teach TK or above, Career Technical Education for early childhood and family studies, or Administrative Credential to support TK-12 early education for candidates who currently hold a Child Development Program Director Permit. This Track is intended for ECE/Child Development coursework that is required for a credential to support the growth of Transitional Kindergarten
Track 3: Child Development Teacher Permit or Above
Tuition Support Stipend: $150 per unit, not to exceed $3,600 per person
- For all SFUSD Paraeducators interested in obtaining early childhood development units to apply for or upgrade their Child Development Permit as required to become a preschool teacher, site supervisor, or director
Track 4: Infant/Toddler Growth and Development
Tuition Support Stipend: $150 per unit, not to exceed $1,800 per person
- For all SFUSD educational staff interested in obtaining infant/toddler growth and development units in order to support 0-3 year old children

If you have completed ECE-related courses at an accredited institution of higher education and paid for tuition from July 1, 2022, to the present, please begin by completing the EETD grant application. Before filling out the grade verification form, make sure you have digital copies of your transcripts showing course completion and proof of tuition payment (receipt), as these documents are required for reimbursement.
Once your documents are ready, complete the Grade Verification Form. After we receive and review your submission, reimbursement will be processed for any eligible ECE coursework that meets the grant criteria.
EETD Grant Frequently Asked Questions
Are non-teaching, classified staff eligible to apply for the EETDG Tuition Support Stipend?
Yes, all current and future early educators intending to be employed within SFUSD are eligible to apply for EETD funds. Courses taken must fall under at least one of the three EETD tracks toward early education.
May I use the EETD Tuition Support Stipend toward my general education courses for degree completion?
No. This grant is specific to California’s Early Educator workforce. Funds will be allocated only toward ECE units, MS credentials to teach TK or above, child development permit increase, and infant/toddler growth and development courses.
If I meet the EETD criteria, when will I receive the tuition support stipend?
Tuition support stipends will be distributed once eligible courses have been fulfilled and the grade verification of passing grade of C or better has been completed by authorized SFUSD staff. Applicants can submit the Grade Verification form after each completed course or once all qualified courses are completed.
What is the timeline for the EETD grant?
The EETD timeline is July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2026. All eligible courses must be completed by participants between July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2026. (Update: CDE has extended the end date from June 30, 2025 to June 30, 2026.)
I am currently taking units for my P-3 or multiple subject credential, early childhood education units, child development permit or above, and/or infant/toddler growth and development units. Do I qualify?
If you are enrolled in qualified courses on or after July 1, 2022, and complete the eligible courses by June 30, 2026, yes, you qualify for the EETD Tuition Support Stipend.
If I qualify for the EETD grant, how much funding will I receive toward my tuition?
The Tuition Support Stipend will vary and be determined by the educational track and availability of funds per EETD grant tracks listed below:
- Track 1: Early Education/Child Development
Tuition Support Stipend: $150 per unit, not to exceed $3,600 per person. - Track 2: P-3 or Multiple Subject Credential
Tuition Support Stipend: $300 per unit, not to exceed $9,000 per person - Track 3: Child Development Teacher Permit or Above
Tuition Support Stipend: $150 per unit, not to exceed $3,600 per person - Track 4: Infant/Toddler Growth and Development

If approved to receive these funds, when will the monies be available to me?
Processing times vary; however, it does take several weeks before a check is mailed. After you have qualified for the grant, completed eligible coursework, and the Grade Verification form has been approved, a tuition support stipend check will be mailed directly to the address on the Form W-9 and/or application form. Applicants can submit the Grade Verification form after each completed course or once all qualified courses are completed.
Will participants be required to select an institution for higher education?
Yes, all participants must enroll themselves into an accredited institution for higher education (IHE) college or university.
I completed my P3 or MS credential, ECE units, child development units for permit or above, and/or infant/toddler growth and development units prior to July 1, 2022. Do I qualify?
No. Prior completion of courses within the four EETDG tracks do not qualify. Eligible courses must be completed within the EETDG timeframe of July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2026.
What are the reporting and documentation requirements for the EETDG Stipend Application?
To apply for the EETDG Stipend, you must complete the EETDG Stipend Application upon finishing your coursework. Along with the application, submit unofficial transcripts from accredited educational institutions to verify successful completion of the coursework. Eligible coursework must be unit-bearing, completed during the program cycle, and fulfill the requirements for a degree or certificate in Child Development, Early Childhood Education (ECE), or Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Applicants must pass the coursework with a grade of “C” or better to qualify for the stipend.
Can I use this money for books or other school expenses?
No, this money is only available as a reimbursement or direct payment for tuition.
Can I apply to use EETD funds to reimburse myself for the cost of renewing my permit/credential?
No, this money is only available as a reimbursement or direct payment for tuition.
I am enrolled in an ECE/ECSE-related Master's degree program. Am I eligible to apply for the EETD grant opportunity?
No, the EETD grant program is intended for individuals seeking associate and/or bachelor's degrees in ECE/ECSE.
