Today, SFUSD Interim Superintendent Myong Leigh, Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, and United Educators of San Francisco President Lita Blanc, alongside civic, nonprofit and labor organization leaders of Homeownership SF which includes Asian Inc, Balance, Mission Economic Development Agency, San Francisco Housing Development Corporation, and the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC), the Justice and Diversity Center of the BAR Association of San Francisco announced joint investments and services to provide housing assistance, eviction defense, and increase access to affordable housing opportunities for San Francisco educators.

Tuesday, October 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Tenderloin Elementary School, HomeownershipSF and its Member housing counseling agencies, Asian Inc, Balance, Mission Economic Development Agency, San Francisco Housing Development Corporation, and the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), United Educators of San Francisco (UESF), Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC) and the Justice and Diversity Center of the BAR Association of San Francisco, will announce new services available to San Francisco Unified School District educators to assist with eviction prevention and housing resources.

All of us in the San Francisco Unified School District are deeply troubled by the incident that took place yesterday afternoon in the parking lot at June Jordan School for Equity (JJSE). Our understanding at this time is that a small group of individuals unaffiliated with the school came to campus around the time of school dismissal, targeting a particular JJSE student for reasons that are presently unclear. Sadly, four students were injured during the incident. They have received appropriate medical attention and are recovering from their injuries.

June Jordan School for Equity (JJSE) is open today and students, their families and staff are receiving support from counselors and the school administration has convened community meetings with students and families.

Attorney General Kamala Harris will be at John Muir Elementary this week to congratulate the school for making big improvements to student attendance.

Today at around 3:15 p.m. at June Jordan School for Equity, an SFUSD high school, gunshots were fired outside the school around dismissal time.

Officials from the California Department of Education (CDE) and leaders from the DiCaprio Foundation will be at Glen Park Elementary this week to congratulate the school for being a trailblazer in California’s Blueprint for Environmental Literacy.

On International Walk and Roll to School Day, Dianne Feinstein Elementary students and families will be joined by Mayor Ed Lee and Interim Superintendent Myong Leigh and Rec and Parks Director Phil Ginsburg as they walk to school.

Lafayette Elementary School has been recognized as a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education, along with 33 other California public schools and 4 private schools.

Bryant Elementary will be receiving 3,000 new books, plus 300 Spanish/English bilingual titles for the school’s main libraries.
