New for SY 2025-26: Waitlists for School Enrollment Link to this section
After the Main Round, SFUSD is using waitlists to manage school enrollment. As new seats become available, they will be offered to students on the waitlist.
How to join waitlists, or change your waitlist requests
Applicants can submit the Waitlist application to join up to 5 schools' waitlists. The Waitlist application opens immediately following the Main Round deadline, and will remain open until the Waitlist application deadline in early August. See the enrollment key dates for specific deadlines.
To submit the Waitlist application online or in-person, review the options and follow the instructions available at sfusd.edu/apply.
Students who are already on waitlists are able to change their waitlist requests or add new requests by submitting a new waitlist application, with their full updated list of choices. New applications will overwrite previous requests. But if you include an existing school on your new waitlist request, your student will keep their position on that waitlist.
How to view your waitlist status
Waitlist status information is viewable in ParentVUE, in the "Student Info/Waitlist" section. It will be updated regularly.
For detailed instructions and screenshots, visit this webpage.
To view your student's waitlist status in ParentVUE:
- Go to sfusd.edu/onlineapp, and log into your account or activate it
- Click "ParentVUE" in the upper right-hand corner
- Select your student by clicking on the student photo in the upper left-hand corner
- Click "Student Info/Waitlist" on the left side of your screen
- Scroll down to view the Waitlist Status for SY 2025-26. A table will display the school, grade, and program for each waitlist your student is on. "Preference order" shows where that choice lies on your ranked list (e.g. "1" = your 1st-choice school). "Waitlist Position" shows where your student is on that waitlist (e.g. "1" = your student is 1st on the waitlist).
What happens when your student receives a waitlist offer
When your student can receive an offer to transfer into one of your requested schools, you will see "Current Offer" appear as their status in the ParentVUE display. The Enrollment Center will also send you an email and text message to notify you. New offers will typically be sent out on Monday mornings, between April 21 - August 29.
When you receive a new offer, you need to Accept or Decline it. You have 5 days to respond; the deadline is Friday at 11:59 PM. You can respond to your offer in ParentVUE — follow these instructions. If you need assistance, contact the Enrollment Center.
Regardless of whether you Accept or Decline the school offered to you, your student can remain on other waitlists. When you enter your response in ParentVUE, you should review your other requests and confirm whether you with to Keep or Cancel them.
How long is each waitlist, and how many students will get in?
You can view the number of students on each waitlist in this spreadsheet, which will be updated regularly: SFUSD SY 2025-26 Waitlist Length (public)
We cannot know how many students will get in ahead of time; it will depend on how many seats become available and how many families decline new offers. Generally we encourage you to be patient and optimistic. However, you can review information from prior years' Wait Pool assignment round to get a sense of what has happened in the past In some cases (denoted in pink cells), we have revised the numbers upward to reflect an estimate that we think is more representative of what is most likely to happen.
