Overview
-
McCoppin Elementary School is a multi-award winning, high-achieving school in the Inner Richmond, a short walk from Golden Gate Park. We believe equity and social justice are achieved when all students are taught with deep attention to their specific needs. We deliver this individualized approach through our diverse support staff of a speech clinician, a school psychologist, a social worker, and a Resources Special Program (RSP) teacher with a paraeducator.
Principal Bennett Lee has been at McCoppin since 2001. He has the vision, energy, and knowledge to lead and provide all students with the education they deserve. He is devoted to forward thinking and has an open mindset to embrace positive change.
We foster intellectual curiosity and connect with students' interests and daily experiences in a safe, positive, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning environment. We provide differentiated instruction to meet student needs. We believe that increasing communication and involvement with students' families helps us succeed in our promises to our students and their families.
Our school was completely renovated and remodeled in 2018. We have new classrooms as well as a new multipurpose area with attached offices and a new library. The playground has been resurfaced and expanded, new turf has been installed in the schoolyard, and a new community mural is featured on 6th Avenue. We make good use of our outdoor classroom, and are working on other greening projects for the school. We invite you to come take a look and meet our Dragon community!
