The Design Challenge
In Flynn’s 3rd-5th grade classes, teachers have observed drastically different technology proficiency levels between white, affluent students and low-income students of color. This lack of technological fluency inhibits their African-American and Latino students ability to express their thinking across subject areas, which affects their engagement and motivation to produce writing and express their thinking. The design team wants to design a school day that provides greater access to technological tools and practice, in order to close the technological opportunity gap seen with their students, which will in turn help close the academic opportunity gap that persists in the school.
