Language Instruction
Start with 80% instruction in Korean, 20% in English in Kindergarten and decrease to 50% in Korean, 50% in English by 5th grade.
Pathway Eligibility
Based on Dual Language Immersion research, district will assign an appropriate balance of students who are proficient in Korean (2/3 to 1/2) and students who have not demonstrated proficiency in Korean (1/3 to 1/2). To demonstrate proficiency, students must pass the Korean language assessment. Applicants with a Home Language Survey response that matches the pathway language will be contacted by the Enrollment Center to schedule an assessment. Any family can contact the Enrollment Center within one week of submitting their application to request an assessment.

• Students who demonstrate grade level proficiency on a Korean assessment given at the school site.

Language Instruction
Students are required to complete two years or 20 credits of a World Language, or demonstrate proficiency using one of the methods listed in this manual, to graduate from high school.
For admission to universities, specifically University of California (UC schools) / California State University (CSU schools), students are required to have taken two years of study in high school in the same World Language, although three years is recommended to be competitive in the application process. Students should take the language classes sequentially without skipping a year between courses.
