State Assessments
At the end of each school year, all students in California public schools take California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 5, 8, 11 and 12 also take the California Science Test (CAST) assessment. Families receive score reports at the beginning of the following school year. These state assessments provide many benefits for SFSUD students and teachers. Both teachers and students use end-of-year state assessments to help identify strengths and areas for improvement for the incoming school year.
In addition to CAASPP, students in grades 5, 7 and 9 take the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) to evaluate their overall physical fitness. English Learner Students in grades TK-12 are administered the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). Along with report cards and district assessments, information from state assessments helps students to understand their academic growth and progress and reflect on areas for improvement in their education.
