Communications

Communications at McKinley Link to this section

There are multiple ways that we communicate with each other at McKinley.  The primary means of communication include:

  • Morning Assemblies at drop-off

  • Wednesday folders each week

  • Monthly Principal Chats

  • ParentVUE - the district's secure, private communication platform including report cards, attendance, district and school communications including messages to/from teachers, the principal and other school staff, student login and password information, online applications and forms

  • School Messenger – district-wide autodialer/text/email for important communications

  • Konstella – an on-line communication platform for PTA volunteers and parents

  • McKinley Monitor (Bi-monthly newsletter)

  • Room parent communications

  • McKinley Facebook Group

  • McKinley website

  • Wednesday morning informal coffee klatch gathering of parents at 8 am

Communicating with your Teacher

Each teacher will indicate his/her preference for communication, but most teachers would prefer email, and/or meeting by appointment.   Please talk to your child’s teacher to establish the best way to stay in touch.  Each family should have at least one contact in ParentVUE in order to receive updates from your classroom teacher.  Do not use Konstella to communicate with teachers as of the Fall of 2021.

Communicating with the Principal

Feel free to stop our principal, Mr. John Collins, whenever you see him, but understand that he has many responsibilities and appointments each day.  For specific discussions, please set up an appointment through the front office clerk (415-241-6300, x0).  Principal Collins also holds monthly Principal Chats which are a great opportunity to hear about the school’s priorities and ask questions.

The Front Office

Ms. Jennifer Hancock is our office clerk and is a great asset for answering questions, setting up appointments, organizing the school, and many, many other things. She can be reached at (415) 241-6300, x0 or hancockj@sfusd.edu.

Communicating via Konstella

Konstella is the online communications tool that McKinley uses to connect parents to each other.  Each family should have at least one contact in Konstella.  You can also find the parent directory on Konstella and message other parents or find their contact information. Please email communications@mckinleyschool.org with questions/access requests/technical support.

Wednesday Folder

Each Wednesday, your child will bring home a folder with notices from the school and your child’s teacher.  Please be sure to read these notices each week and return the folders the next day, and be sure to include any forms that need your response or signature.

Back to School Night

Back to school night is a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and learn about the teacher’s plans for the year, expectations for your child, and opportunities for involvement. Back to School Night generally takes place in September. Important details on the date, time and ASEP childcare will be announced via Konstella.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

There are two formal meetings planned each year for teachers and parents/guardians to exchange information and plan together for their child’s education. School is dismissed one hour early during the week of these conferences. You will review your child’s report card with your teacher and get updates on their academic performance and overall development. Your teacher will have signup sheets for times and days in the Spring and Fall.
