Common Core: Math Talks
We are rolling up our sleeves and diving into the common core for mathematics! "Math Talks" is transforming the way math is taught to children by using active communication to shape the way students learn mathematics. Our students learn to represent, explain, justify, agree, and disagree individually and in groups. We challenge them to articulate and defend their ideas and to analyze the reasoning of others. As the children reflect on how we come to mathematical answers they acquire a deeper understanding of math concepts. Our trained teacher leaders are working alongside district trainers to ensure that we develop our classroom practices with the appropriate tools. For more information, you can link to the main three sections: Rich Math Tasks, Classroom Discourse, & Collaborative Group Work. You can also refer to Math Talk's Parents' Guide.
