New School Building, Small Class Sizes
As one of the first public elementary schools in the city, Garfield has been providing a rich academic environment for more than 100 years. Today, Garfield is a small tight-knit community serving children of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds in grades K-5. The school grounds got renovated in 2020 and students and faculty are now enjoying the new school building!
Garfield Video Overview
At Garfield, we are dedicated to fostering enthusiasm for lifelong learners through our high level bi-literacy program and our general education classes. We have school-wide social and emotional wellness program and on-site staff to support students and families. Our teachers, faculty, students, and parents are deeply valued and together create an engaging learning environment.
We celebrate our school through this video overview!
Activities and Field Trips
Garfield students are fortunate to have the great city of San Francisco to do some amazing activities and field trips. Since Garfield is located right underneath Coit Tower, the entire school got to go to Coit Tower and visit the outstanding murals and see Garfield from above. Other field trips include going to Chinatown, the Embarcadero, the Asian Art Museum, and many other places in San Francisco and beyond. We have garden, art, music, reading recovery, computers, and even Friday Dance Parties for everyone to enjoy!
Garfield Library
Our school library is newly renovated and has space for ample variety of books including a large selection of culturally relevant books that students can choose from. Our amazing school librarian, Ms. Tang, helps Monday through Wednesday with lessons around guided reading, makers lab, and making sure that students have ample amount of reading time and book choice for all students!
