Why has the dashboard been released?
SFUSD released this dashboard in accordance with the August 2020 resolution passed by the Board of Education called “SFUSD Data Access, Inclusion, and Partnership to Enhance Student Success” (208-25A1). The resolution, which was crafted with SFUSD leadership, is intended to better reflect the diversity of the District beyond the commonly reported race/ethnicity categories by the state and federal governments (you can find more information on those categories here). The entire Board of Education resolution is available here.
Who is the dashboard for?
This dashboard was created for public use by community-based organizations, SFUSD parents and guardians, and anyone else who might like to learn more about our students.
How often will the dashboard be updated?
Per Board Resolution 208-25A1, the dashboard will be updated twice annually (in September and March), at minimum.
Who should we contact if we have additional questions or feedback on the dashboard?
Please email rpadata@sfusd.edu with questions or feedback.
How can I request student-level data?
In order to protect student privacy and comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), the dashboard only contains de-identified data. All student records and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from those records is private and confidential and cannot be shared with anyone other than the parent/guardian except in limited circumstances, such as when a student’s parent or guardian has provided consent to do so. Specifically, PII refers to identifiable information maintained in education records and includes direct identifiers, such as a student’s name or identification number; indirect identifiers, such as a student’s date of birth; and other information that a member of the community could reasonably use to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, either directly or indirectly through linkages with other information.
If you are interested in student-level data, you can:
- Learn more about our process for external research and evaluation here.
- Access the Request for Directory Information form here (please note that this form will only be reviewed if submitted by an authorized recipient of Directory Information only, as detailed here in the Student and Family Handbook).
