Summer School

Beacon's summer learning program serve students in grades one through eighth grade. Students meet five days a week for six to eight hours per day over the span of six weeks at a Revere during June and July.

The elementary summer model structures the day into discrete classes focusing on literacy, math, science, art, and physical recreation. Students are divided by grade level, and they remain in these groups for most of the day. Each class is taught by a specialized instructor who creates curriculum specific for the grade level they are teaching.

The daily summer schedule includes community circle time, structured physical activities, lunch, and snack. They emphasize academic enrichment, skill building, and STEM programs and utilize SEL, cultural awareness, and youth development principles.

Students also attend week-long afternoon clubs focusing on additional enrichments (e.g. dance, music, cooking, and service learning). These programs are led by BACR multilingual Summer Program Leaders, sub-contractors and agency partners.

The programs also include weekly field trips that utilize the many opportunities in the Bay Area for enriching experiences (e.g. Movie theaters, Zoos, Aquariums, and Museums). Integral to their programs are parent engagement activities such as open-house showcases, art exhibits, and student demonstrations of final projects.
