Welcome Letter

Greetings Hoover Community,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Gabriel Baker and I am the new Principal at Hoover Middle School. For the health and safety of all, SFUSD has confirmed to return to school with distance learning. This is not our preferred way to start a school year. We miss seeing our students and families in person and being together on campus. We want to assure you that we are preparing and planning for the best possible start that distance learning can afford us. Hoover’s collective community of talented and dedicated staff are committed to being open and responsive to our community's needs.  

We know that you hold many questions and wonderings. We write to inform you that we are diligently working this week to finalize our bell schedule and program for students and will be releasing further information soon. We also plan to have our website updated by early next week. The school website will be used as your hub of general information.      

Until then, you can count on:

• Every child being issued an iPad or Chromebook to support connectivity and access. We are still a recipient of a major grant with Verizon Innovative Schools, a national program. *If your student needs a tech device or a wifi hotspot, please complete this GOOGLE FORM as soon as possible. More details about technology distribution will come soon. 
• Your child will have Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, PE, and an Elective.
• A clear schedule that includes both "live" class time with teachers and independent assignments and tasks.
• Teacher feedback for students and opportunities for office hours.
• A revised bell schedule with an early release schedule on Wednesday, with students finishing at 1 PM. *Students will be asked to participate with Zoom or Google Hangouts. Note that we are still working out the schedule details with SFUSD. 
• Programming to support enrichment and socialization with our Beacon Staff as well as regular small group check ins with teachers.

Saludos Comunidad Hoover,

Bienvenido al año escolar 2020-2021. Mi nombre es Gabriel Baker y soy el nuevo Director de la escuela intermedia Hoover. Para la salud y seguridad de todos, el Distrito Escolar de San Francisco (SFUSD) ha confirmado que regresaremos a la escuela con educación a distancia. Esta no es nuestra forma preferida de comenzar un año escolar. Echamos de menos ver a nuestros estudiantes y familias en persona y estar juntos en el campus. Queremos asegurarle que estamos preparando y planificando el mejor comienzo posible que el aprendizaje a distancia nos puede permitir. La comunidad colectiva de Hoover, con un personal talentosos y dedicados, se compromete a ser abiertos y receptivos a las necesidades de nuestra comunidad.

Sabemos que hay muchas preguntas sin respuestas. Escribimos para informarle que estamos trabajando diligentemente esta semana para finalizar los horarios y el programa académico para los estudiantes.  Pronto publicaremos más información. También planeamos actualizar nuestro sitio web a principios de la próxima semana. El sitio web de la escuela se utilizará como su centro de información general.

Hasta entonces, puedes contar con:

• Todos los estudiantes recibirán un iPad o Chromebook para permitir la conectividad y el acceso. Todavía recibimos una importante subvención con Verizon Innovative Schools, que es un programa nacional. *Si su estudiante necesita un dispositivo tecnológico o un punto de acceso internet wifi, complete este FORMULARIO DE GOOGLE lo antes posible.  Pronto se enviarán más detalles sobre la distribución de tecnología.

• Su estudiante tendrá artes del lenguaje, matemática, ciencia, estudios sociales, educación física y una asignatura optativa.

• Un horario claro que incluirá tiempo de clase "en vivo" con los maestros y tareas independientes.

• Comentarios de los maestros para los estudiantes y oportunidades de tener horas de oficina, donde los maestros estarán disponibles.

• Un horario revisado, con salida temprano el miércoles, donde los estudiantes terminarán a las 1 PM. *Se les pedirá a los estudiantes que participen con Zoom o Hangouts de Google. Tenga en cuenta que todavía estamos trabajando los detalles de nuestro programa con SFUSD.

• Programación para apoyar el enriquecimiento y la socialización con nuestro personal de Beacon y reuniones regulares en grupos pequeños con los maestros.
