What is the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment? Link to this section
The Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (F&P) is an assessment used to measure
students’ readiness for reading and to determine their independent/ instructional reading levels.
Why is it Important? Link to this section
F&P assessment results support teachers to select a range of appropriate texts for students. In
SFUSD, we believe students should have multiple opportunities to improve their reading by
accessing complex texts with support, and practicing reading strategies in books which can be
read independently.
