SFUSD Wellness Policy
The SFUSD Wellness Policy Program’s vision is to promote an environment that makes the healthy choice the easy and most desirable choice for students, staff, and families. Wellness Policy site research indicates that social determinants of health including the physical environment and accessibility to clean water and fresh, culturally-relevant foods, are highly influential factors that largely determine one’s health and well-being. San Francisco-specific research also indicates that there are egregious health disparities disproportionately experienced by certain socioeconomic and racial/ethnic populations.
SFUSD has increased access to healthy foods and water while ending the sale of soda and unhealthy snack foods at all school sites in order to eliminate health disparities in our communities and to encourage all students to achieve the best social, emotional and physical health.
The SFUSD Wellness Policy includes:
- nutrition guidelines for all foods available on the school campus during the school day;
- guidelines for fundraising/food sales on campus;
- nutrition guidelines for foods in classroom celebrations, rewards, and projects;
- goals for nutrition education, physical activity (at least 60 minutes a day), and other activities to promote student wellness.
The SFUSD Wellness Policy encourages all staff to role model holistic health behaviors for students, families, staff and school community.
The SFUSD Wellness Policy meets all of the provisions of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA), and provides all schools with a framework to actively promote the health and wellness of students, staff and families. For further information, please visit: www.sfusd.edu/bewell
