The Cabinet's Roles
President
- Ensure facilitation of all SAC meetings and meetings of the cabinet.
- Be the official spokesperson of the SAC.
- Be present at the Board of Education meetings as needed.
- Meet the superintendent and the student delegates on a monthly basis.
- Ensures reports to the Board of Education in the absence of both Student Delegates.
Student Delegates
- Act as a liaison between the students of the San Francisco Unified School District and the San Francisco Board of Education.
- Update the Board of Education on the current events of the student advisory council, and visa versa.
- Be present at all the Board of Education meetings (every other Tuesday).
- Be present at all the SAC meetings.
- Meet with the Superintendent and the President of the SAC on a monthly basis.
Vice President
- Perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President.
- Ensure Student Advisory Council attendance at all other commission and/or committee meetings relating to the SAC.
- Be present at Board of Education meetings as needed.
Commissioner of Leadership and Engagement
- Coordinate & Facilitates SFUSD’s Student Leadership with City Hall and/or City Departments relations.
- Attend and Represent the SAC at City & County of San Francisco community meetings.
- Oversees & Supports the SAC Committee Chairs and ongoing Projects.
- Provides recommendations for community service hours completed for a total of 250 hours per year.
- Serve as a liaison between Committee Chairs and Cabinet Team to ensure that projects are track & updated.
- Oversees the Youth Summit invitations, Special Guests and proposals for the workshop presenters.
- Provides the Board of Education, summary update on Committee Projects and/or Student Leadership events.
- Serves as a rotating Cabinet Member for the Cabinet Team as necessary.
Secretary
- Monitor and report to the school sites and the Student Advisory Council on the Student Advisory Council’s attendance.
- Ensure recording of minutes of the Student Advisory Council.
- Be responsible for Student Advisory Council correspondence.
- Ensure recording votes at Student Advisory Council meetings.
- Be present at Board of Education meetings as needed.
Treasurer
- Coordinate and manage the Student Advisory Council fiscal budget with the assistance of the SAC Advisor.
- Organize fundraisers, as permitted by “Resolution to Establish the Student Advisory Council Fund” (Adopted April 8, 2008).
- Prior to any expenditure of funds by the Student Advisory Council, the SAC Advisor, a Board of Education designated official or employee and a SAC representative shall approve the expenditure of any SAC funds to ensure compliance with the “Resolutions to Establish Student Advisory Council Fund” (Adopted April 8, 2008).
- Serve as a liaison between students and advisor(s) to ensure that reimbursements are made.
- Write grant proposals and manage grants hereafter.
- Provide the Student Advisory Council with a semi-annual
Public Relations Officer
- Coordinate Student Advisory Council meetings in the community.
- Coordinate involvement in community forums, public events, etc.
- Work with the SFUSD Office of Public Information to coordinate media activities, public outreach and educational materials.
- Work with the SFUSD Office of Public Information to ensure public information of the Student Advisory Council’s work is readily accessible by the public.
- Be present at Board of Education meetings as needed.
- Perform duties as needed.
- Coordinate and organize a monthly SAC bulletin/newsletter to update SFUSD students of ongoing issues affecting the district.
- Direct the Public Relations committee to write articles and updates.
- Work with the IT department to update the SFUSD Student Advisory Council Web site.
Historian
- Uphold and enforce all guidelines as defined in Student Advisory Council bylaws, procedure and precedence.
- Aid in all necessary research for the Student Advisory Council.
- Make Student Advisory Council history and precedence available and accessible.
- Document major Student Advisory Council events.
- Perform the duties of the secretary in the absence of the secretary.
- Perform the duties of the Public Relations Officer in the absence of the Public Relations Officer.
- Be present at Board of Education meetings as needed.
