Title I and CSI

Title I , Part A

Title I, Part A is a federal grant providing funding to schools, under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), to support effective, evidence-based strategies that close the achievement gap and enable students to meet the state's challenging academic standards. Title I-funded schools in the SFUSD are Schoolwide Program (SWP) schools.

Title I-funded positions and resources must be supplemental to core programming (cannot replace what is mandated core programming).

Please reach out to the State & Federal Programs team with any questions you may have around eligibility of Title I funds.

What is Comprehensive Support and Improvement?

Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) funds are School Improvement Funds (Section 1003) identified by the United States Department's Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Through an application process, the District elects to apply for the funds supporting schools identified to meet the school improvement requirements.

The California Department of Education has determined the school site's School Plan for Student Achievement will be the mechanism to articulate the evidence-based resources and support to respond to improving student outcomes. Furthermore, the district is required to provide an overview of their support to identified CSI schools.
