How does SAC work?

SAC's Structure

What is the purpose of the Student Advisory Council (SAC)?

The San Francisco Unified School District Student Advisory Council is a citywide, youth-led organization that is committed to providing a voice for the students of the San Francisco Unified School District by representing and presenting the interests of the students to the administrative and policy-making bodies of the San Francisco Unified School District. The SAC adheres to the Brown Act.

What does the Student Advisory Council do?

The Student Advisory Council (SAC) provides the opportunity for student voice at the district level. Students on the council are responsible for elevating the issues from their specific school sites to the council. With this input from each school site, the SAC works on an action plan to address these student concerns and issues. The SAC has access to work with both the Board of Education and the superintendent in this process. The SAC also hosts an annual student leadership conference for SFUSD high school students called the Youth Summit.

Who is on the Council?

Each SFUSD high school has 2 representatives on the Student Advisory Council. The council is led by a student-elected cabinet team. The cabinet includes the following leaders:

  • President
  • Student Delegates (2) (these students are also student board members for the district)
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Public Relations Officer
  • Historian

Who coordinates the Council?

The Council is a part of the Board of Education office. Marykate Rossi is the Student Engagement & Operations Manager and oversees the Council:
