Our TK program is designed to bridge the preschool learning environment with that of the traditional kindergarten classroom. It is taught by multiple subject credentialed teachers who blend preschool and kindergarten instructional practices in order to meet the individual needs of each child.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is for students who will be turning age 5 between September 2 and April 2 of the school year they wish to enroll (see Age Requirements). TK is offered at select SFUSD Early Education Schools and elementary schools.

The 25-26 school year enrollment process will be simpler! There is only one deadline: Main Round Applications are due January 31, 2025.
All families who do not get their first choice school will be automatically added to the wait lists of up to 5 schools on their application. Families applying for the first time after January 31 will be added to wait lists for schools of their choice and assigned to a school with space. Find more details here.

Wait List Application Opens February 1, 2025
Families applying for the first time after this date can join the end of the Wait List for schools they are interested in. These families will need to do Open Enrollment between April and August to get a school assignment.
Families who already applied for the Main Round, but who did not get their top choice, will be automatically added to the Wait Lists of schools above their assigned school on their list, and do not need to resubmit the Wait List application unless they want to change the ranking of schools on their Wait List.
John McLaren Early Education School staff do not have access to this list. If you have any questions about the waitlist process please contact the central office Enrollment Center at (415) 241-6085.
