Emergency Procedure

Families, in the event of a school-wide emergency or natural disaster, our school's number one goal is to keep your student(s) safe.
In the event that we need to evacuate our school building due to an emergency or natural disaster, we will either evacuate to our turf field on our campus, or to an off-campus location, if it is determined that evacuating without school grounds is not safe.
Family cooperation when an emergency or natural disaster is also a vital part of keeping all students and staff safe. In case of an emergency or natural disaster, all families are directed to do the following:
Do not telephone the school. Telephone lines will be needed for emergency communication. Any large overload of services may result in the entire phone system shutting down, and disabling phone contact with emergency personnel. It is important for parents not to telephone the school, though this may likely be in contradiction to natural parental instincts.
Please listen to the radio for news. During an emergency, SFUSD will provide updates on the homepage of the website and send updates to the City’s designated emergency broadcast radio stations: KCBS (740 AM), KNBR (680 AM), KGO (810 AM), KQED (88.5 FM) and KSJO (92.3 FM). Call 311 for SF updates & 211 for Bay Area updates.
Depending on the status of internet and telephone connectivity and the urgency of the notification, SFUSD may also notify staff and parents through phone messages via ParentVUE and/or the district’s School Messenger (using the number on file with SFUSD).
Once our evacuation procedure is initiated, ER Taylor’s on-campus reunion location for families will be around the school’s turf field. Parents/Guardians or Family designees listed on emergency cards, will sign out their student with their classroom teacher at their students daily line up spot on the turf field. Families will not be allowed to reunify with their student, until all classes are secured on the turf field and a perimeter is set up around the turf field, to ensure all families sign-out their student with a teacher.
ER Taylor’s primary off-campus relocation location is the Palega Park Baseball Diamond #1, at the corner of Somerset and Felton Streets (see map below). Parents/Guardians or Family designees listed on emergency cards, will still sign out their student with their classroom teacher in their designated grade level location.
Students will only be released to parents and persons identified on the School District Emergency Card. In the event of a serious incident, students will be kept at their school until they are picked up by an identified, responsible adult who has been designated as such on a school district emergency card.
