Dear Aptos Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Aptos Middle School! We are excited about providing a positive middle school experience.
Aptos Vision: A premier performing arts middle school experience that prepares Aptos Scholars to master academic standards, demonstrate 21st century skills and develop a unique perspective to navigate high school and ultimately the world with a sense of purpose, while upholding the Tiger Values. The implementations this year to support the vision: Block Schedule (83 minutes classes); Increased electives for all scholars, Algebra elective (8th grade only),
6th Graders:
Step Up occurred on Monday Aug. 6, 2024 from 9-12:30 pm. Students had the opportunity to attend 4 rotations (Physical Education, Classrooms, CYC Beacon, & Band), had lunch and built community, prior to the first day of school.
School resumes on Monday, August 19, 2024 @ 9:30 am. All students will enter through the front doors of the school on Aptos Ave. Parents will be welcomed by the PTSA representatives in the front of the school from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Parents please leave your student at the entrance, no parents will be allowed to enter the building. .
Aptos strives to create an environment where each and every student and family member knows they are welcomed, needed, and valued. There are multiple ways to be involved and connect; Committees - English Language Advisory Council, African American Parent Advisory Council, School Site Council, volunteering, attendance at family and school events, donations, fundraisers etc… find a way to connect that works best for you. Beacon Afterschool Program
Dear Students and Families:
The CYC Aptos Beacon Center & SFUSD ExCEL After School Program is pleased to offer our applications for the 2024-25 school year! The Beacon Center after school program is designed in collaboration with the school and is in alignment with SFUSD ExCEL After School Program guidelines. The program is open immediately after school and our daily schedule offers community building, academic/homework assistance, arts and recreation, enrichment classes, STEM exploration, leadership development, and many project based learning opportunities for students. In addition, CYC collaborates with other community based organizations and service providers who will provide programs and services during our after school program. Please note they may require additional registration requirements.
After School Program Hours:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 4:00pm - 6:45pm*
Wednesdays: 2:15 - 6:15 pm*
(*Times may change based on the next school year's bell schedule.)
Program Fees: $800 for Full School Year
$200 registration fee (non refundable)
$600 program fee

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

Submit FULL Day absences via the ParentVUE portal
Starting in the 2024-25 school year SFUSD schools will be able to receive FULL DAY absence notifications from your ParentVUE app or on the ParentVUE website (click here to learn more or watch video on instructions).
For PARTIAL Day absences, please call our attendance office (415) 469-4520. In case we cannot answer your call please leave a message including the name of the student (first and last name) date and reason for absence, you can also send us an email with the information listed above to Ms. Karen arias-hernandezk@sfusd.edu
State law requires the school to call the parent/guardian when students are not in school. For details on absences, please visit the district website here.
TARDY:
Classes start at 9:30 a.m, students are expected to be in their classrooms! Students arriving after 9:35 am will be marked tardy. Late students need a tardy pass from the main office to be admitted to class.
PERMIT TO LEAVE:
If a student needs to leave early for a medical/dental appointment, parents/guardians need to call ahead of time the day of the appointment, send us an email or bring/send a note at the beginning of the day 9:00 - 9:30 am (texts or calls to students will not be accepted).
A “permit to leave” will be issued to the student in order to leave the school. Students must report to the attendance office when returning to school from an appointment.
Please make sure you update the emergency card on ParentVue, only authorized names listed on the emergency card are allowed to pick up students.
ILLNESS:
If a student is not feeling well, they should report to the school nurse and she will determine if the student needs to be picked up by a parent/guardian. Parents/guardians will receive a call from the school nurse.
TRUANT:
Truancy letters are issued after the 3rd (Letter 1), 6th (Letter 2), and 10th(Letter 3) unexcused absences or tardiness over 30 mins. One absence is defined as being tardy for over 30 min (T30) or being absent for one or more periods in a school day. Truancy letters will automatically be attached to the ParentVue account on the 2nd Friday of each month.

● At the beginning of every school year all families are asked to submit the annual Multipurpose Family Income Form. Eligible families qualify for school eligibility benefits and every form earns school funding. ● Apply online at SchoolCafe.com or ask your school for a paper form.
