Dear Aptos Families:
I’m writing to share some information regarding technology use. We have learned that a student’s Verizon Ellipsis Hotspot ignited, causing a small fire, after several weeks of the hotspot appearing swollen. Fortunately, no one was injured and while this is the only report we have received about a hotspot igniting, this incident has highlighted the need to look for signs of swelling batteries and remember other safety tips for electronic devices.
SFUSD has loaned Chromebook devices and Internet hotspots for students in grades PK-12 who need technology to engage in distance learning. SFUSD has four different types of hot spots. If a student’s hotspot is swelling or bulging, please contact the Family and Student Resource Link at 415.340.1716 or familylink@sfusd.edu to report the concern. All other technology requests/needs should follow our regular school protocols.
Additionally, please take some time to review these Device Safety Tips from SFUSD’s Department of Technology. For additional support with SFUSD technology for distance learning, please visit the SFUSD Family Technology website.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or questions. Sincerely,
Stacey Wyatt - Principal
Jeff Sloane - Assistant Principal
