Prop A substitutes provide daily coverage exclusively at High Potential Schools.
How do I accept assignments?
Prop A subs are auto-assigned to High Potential schools.
Red Rover is the substitute management system where you can log in with your SFUSD email and password to start accepting assignments. Please see the guide for more information.
How long can I stay in one assignment?
Substitute teachers who hold a 30-day sub permit can only sub in one classroom for 30 days, 20 days for Special Education classrooms. If the substitute teacher has a clear CA credential, they can remain past the 30 days for all other classrooms and 20 days for Special education classrooms.
What is my daily pay rate?
Prop A substitute's daily pay rate for a full-day assignment is $412.33 and $206.16 for a half-day assignment. One day of assignment of sub teaching is more than 3.51 hours and half day sub teaching is 3.5 hours or less.
Substitute teachers are paid monthly. If you hold multiple positions, one of which is paid biweekly, BOTH positions will be compensated on the biweekly payroll schedule.

How do I submit my timesheet?
Substitutes do not enter time on timesheets in EMPowerSF. The school sites verifies the hours worked and the sub office transfers your time worked which is located on your Red Rover calendar to your timesheet on EMPower.

How do I set up my Direct Deposit?
To enroll in direct deposit, please complete the direct deposit authorization form attached in the link below and return it to the Payroll Department. Please note that it will take two pay periods for the direct deposit to be fully processed.
You can find the direct deposit authorization form on the Payroll website or download directly here. This form may need to be downloaded to fill and complete. Please ensure to submit the form in person to the Payroll Department.

Are there any bonuses?
Prop A subs are eligible for a 10 day bonus. A sub who works 10 days consecutively or more in the same assignment is eligible for $39.82 a day. This bonus is compensated on the following 1-2 pay cycles.
How do I request sick time off?
You must be employed for 90 calendar days and have worked at least 30 assignments to be eligible for sick time. 40 hours of sick time will be loaded on the next pay period after you’ve met the minimum requirements. All subs with the exception of Early Ed subs (up to 8 hours), the max hours to request are 7 hours per day as most sub assignments are 7 hours max, half day would be 3.5 hours and less
Sub Office Manager, receives the request and approves before the end of the pay period.
What is the process of renewing my Tuberculosis (TB) test and credential/permit?
TB: All new substitutes are required to submit a negative TB Risk assessment or negative TB test dated within 60 days of your hire date and 4 every year thereafter from your test date. A copy of the assessment or the negative TB test can be sent to substitutes@sfusd.edu
Credential/Permit: All new substitutes are required to have either a 30-day sub permit or a credential. You are required to renew your permit/credential every year (if applicable). You can follow the instructions on the CTC website to renew your documents. Once they are renewed, please send a copy of your permit/credential to substitutes@sfusd.edu.
How do I take attendance in the classroom?
Substitutes may take attendance online and get classroom instruction notes from the teacher by logging into Synergy with a daily temporary password. Please see the guide on how to use Synergy.
