What is Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment is a way for students to enroll in SFUSD for the first time, or change their enrolled school and pathway for next school year. Any family needing a new school assignment for 2025-2026 can participate in Open Enrollment. This includes families who have never applied to SFUSD before and families who have applied in the Main Round or Waitlist process. Open Enrollment for SY 2025-26 begins on April 28, 2025.
What schools are available during Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment works on a first-come, first-served basis for immediate assignment to any school with open seats and no Waitlist requests. If your student is already on waitlists, you do not need to participate in Open Enrollment; the Enrollment Center will contact you if a seat becomes available at one of your requested schools, and those schools will not be options for families participating in Open Enrollment.
How to participate in Open Enrollment?
Families who wish to participate in Open Enrollment can contact the Enrollment Center directly.
Phone: 415-241-6085
Email enrollinschool@sfusd.edu
Visit an office in-person: 555 Franklin St (94102) or 1520 Oakdale Ave (94124; Tue & Thu only)
If you are applying for a new student for the first time, you can complete the online application, found at sfusd.edu/onlineapp. If your student is already in our system, then you just need to speak with an Enrollment Counselor about school openings.
How does Open Enrollment impact my previous enrollment, and my Waitlist requests?
If you choose to enroll your child in a school using the Open Enrollment process, you overwrite any previous school assignment for the 2025-26 school year.
However, enrollment changes made during Open Enrollment will not impact pending Waitlist applications.
