Elementary Health
Elementary health education strives to improve health outcomes for youth and their families by teaching the knowledge and skills necessary for life-long healthy choices.
A Closer Look
What's Covered in Elementary Health
Elementary Educators are required to teach at least 20 health lessons a year. We recommend teachers teach 3 or more lessons in each of the 7 health categories:
- Mental and Emotional Health
- Injury Prevention and Safety
- Personal and Community Health
- Alcohol Tobacco and other Drugs
- LGBTQ, Family Diversity, and Gender
- Growth and Development
- Nutrition and Physical Activity

Curriculum
Health education is taught from the following district-approved curricula:

HealthSmart (ETR)- comprehensive health education

Second Step (Committee for Children) - social emotional learning

Planned Parenthood - grades 5/6 puberty curriculum

Health Advocates
A Health Advocate is school site staff member who is passionate about health and wellness. They play a vital role in promoting health education and implementation of the Wellness Policy. Health Advocates work with all members of the school community and team with local community based organizations to help create an environment where the healthy choice is the easy choice!
