Student Nutrition Services (SNS) is committed to providing students the equitable support they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond, by keeping them nourished along the way. During the normal school year, we serve over 37,000 meals per day at 136 schools across San Francisco. 

As of the 2022-23 school year, Governor Newsom signed into order California Meals for All, a statewide program offering Universal Meals for all school children. CA Meals for All means all students eat at no cost and no application is necessary for students to receive a meal. The District’s nutrition guidelines meet or exceed the standards outlined in Federal, State, and local policies established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and California Department of Education (CDE). We align our procurement practices with the Good Food Purchasing Policy (GFPP), supporting our commitment to the health and equity of our students and our food system. It’s hard to learn when you’re hungry, which is why we provide the same meal options to all students, and SFUSD’s Board of Education passed the 2009 “Feed Every Hungry Child” resolution, formalizing our commitment to ensure students are not denied school meals.

Our Funding Link to this section

Our operations are funded through reimbursements from Federal and State governments, local sales, and the SFUSD General Fund. Our innovation projects are funded by No Kid Hungry, the San Francisco Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax, and SF 2016 General Obligation Bond.

The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA
