SFUSD’s Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) implementation plan spans three school years, from 2018-19 to 2020-21, and features instructional materials aligned with national standards. In the first school year, each grade level saw new Physical Science modules. In subsequent school years, new Earth and Life Science modules are being deployed. The goal is to have all materials in all classrooms by 2021.

This effort began in the 2016-17 school year when the elementary science team facilitated a rigorous curriculum adoption process to meet the demands of NGSS-aligned instructional materials. Using a wide range of data, including feedback collected from 96 teachers who piloted four different sets of instructional materials across SFUSD schools, the adoption committee decided to recommend Amplify Science.
