Guiding Principles & Action Steps Link to this section
The Each and Every by Name Initiative reflects the deep commitment to student-centered, data-driven, and equity-focused practices in SFUSD. Each and Every principles are embedded within district-wide systems through curriculum investments, instructional coaching, strategic site-based support, and family partnerships
Critical components of this work include:
- Communicating frequently with educators and leaders to ensure they have the tools, data, and knowledge to prioritize Each and Every student in instructional planning.
- Sharing of best practices among teachers that are responsive to student needs.
- Providing routine family check-ins and family literacy engagement opportunities—like the Each and Every Family Book Club.
- Distributing decodable books to families of Each and Every students.
- Increasing focus on kindergarten readiness to improve literacy outcomes.
- Continuing investments in high-quality early learning experiences in PreK and Transitional Kindergarten (TK).
- Strengthening early childhood learning, expanding access to culturally responsive instructional resources, and ensuring smooth transitions into kindergarten.
- Ensuring that all African American and Pacific Islander students receive early, targeted support through systematic phonics instruction, personalized assessment data, and access to high-quality instructional resources like AMIRA, an AI-powered high-impact tutoring app.
