Commissioner Lainie Motamedi

Lainie Motamedi’s professional experience spans multiple sectors and expertise areas. 

Her early career began in software and product development in the tech sector working with start-up and Fortune 500 companies during periods of high growth and change. She later led clean energy initiatives and climate change policy coordination at the California Public Utilities Commission in the wake of a statewide energy crisis. 

For the last decade, while raising her family, she has been the personnel manager and park ranger with the National Park Service’s horse patrol program in the Marin Headlands. She has also served on several San Francisco based governance boards. 

In 2022, Mayor London Breed appointed her to the Board of Education. She successfully ran and was elected to her seat in November of that year. She had previously served on SFUSD’s Public Education Enrichment Fund advisory committee for for four years, including two as co-chair. As a parent, she served on several SFUSD PTAs and School Site Councils. Her mom and stepdad are retired public school educators.

She is a graduate of UC Santa Cruz, earned an MBA from the University of Washington, and was a Coro Public Affairs Fellow.
