American Heart Association: What: American Heart Association (AHA) Julie Kaufmann and American Dietetics Association interns in collaboration withSFUSD Physical Education Instructors Verna Castro-Burwell and Tatiana Kanakis will provide a series of twice-a-month (Monday) cooking classes at Phillip Burton HS from 5:00 - 6:15 pm on Monday, January 12, Monday, January 26, Monday, February 9 culminating with a family engagement meal night with parents and families on Monday, February 23rd from 4:15-6:15 at the Burton HS cafeteria. The Y Bike PE program teaches youth safe bicycle riding and street skills in their regular school physical education class. This is achieved through a services of bike handling drills and the simulation of traffic situations of progressive difficulty, culminating in a group neighborhood ride. The ultimate goal is to teach students how to ride safely through their city and to train PE teachers how to implement the curriculum (which meets CA State PE Standards) on their own.
