Kindergarten Readiness Inventory (KRI)

The Kindergarten Readiness Inventory (KRI) includes measures across an array of readiness skills. It includes 4 literacy foundational skills from The Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System and a set of 6 observation items from the Kindergarten Observation Form related to social-emotional learning, wellness, and numeracy.

Use KRI results to inform the design of whole group and small group instruction, and to identify students for early intervention in the areas assessed.  The KRI provides foundational data in wellness, social-emotional learning, numeracy, and literacy to allow collaboration with colleagues and families to improve outcomes for all students from the beginning of grade K and beyond.

For more information about the KRI please visit SFUSD Kindergarten Readiness Inventory.

The Star Early Literacy (with Numeracy) assessment is a computer-adaptive, research-based, valid and reliable assessment designed to measure early literacy and numeracy skills. The Star Early Literacy/Numeracy assessment measures Print Concepts, Phonological Awareness, Vocabulary Acquisition/Use, Phonics Word Recognition, Fluency, Counting & Cardinality, Operations & Algebraic Thinking, Measurement/Data, along with 41 different sets of sub-skills or concepts. Star Early Literacy can be paired with additional Star measures to further screen for phonological processing needs. The Star Early Literacy assessment with embedded numeracy is available in English or Spanish and is administered in a private and protected platform, and includes audio instructions and dictation of each test question and item. As students take the assessment, the software increases or decreases the difficulty level based on students’ responses.

The Kindergarten Report Card was developed in collaboration with SFUSD administrators, content offices, teachers, parents, and community members. The goal of this new and improved Report Card is to provide parents with a more comprehensible communication tool that conveys their child’s progress toward grade-level expectations.
