Community Advisory Committee for Special Education
CAC MONTHLY UPDATE
Hello CAC Community,
The school year is winding down and CAC members are busy advocating for the special education community in schools, at town halls, with city partners and our legislators in Sacramento.
Last night CAC members partnered with Support for Families to host a community meeting on the SFUSD Resource Alignment Initiative. Notes from that meeting will be shared at cacspedsf.com. Your input is important so be sure to sign up for a community session and complete the survey by 11:59pm Sunday, May 5th.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 14th at 6:30pm and plan on joining the CAC in person at the SFUSD Board of Education Meeting we will be sharing our Annual Report to the Board of Education and would love to have community voices joining us. The Special Education Department will also be sharing the proposed 24-25 budget this will be a very important meeting for our community.
The CAC held a very informative April Meeting on Autism. The SFUSD Special Education Department shared information about programs offered and the SF Autism Society shared information about Autism and Community Resources. If you missed it you can watch the recording or view the slides on our CAC meeting page.
Lastly, as we wind down this school year many of our students are moving up to new schools in the fall. If your child will be moving up to kinder, middle school or high school. If so, you might have a transition meeting scheduled. These quick meetings are a great opportunity to meet the new school team and make sure everyone has a clear understanding of your child's IEP. This article from Easter Sales offers some great tips about how to prepare your child for a new school.

PURPOSE OF THE CAC
The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education is to champion effective special education programs and services and advise the Board of Education on priorities in the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).
The State Education Code mandates that each SELPA have a CAC and that a majority of CAC members are parents of students with disabilities.
Joining the CAC gives community members an opportunity to have their opinions heard and make a difference in the way special education is conducted in our area. Find out more on the CAC membership page.
