Announcement Message
Dear SFUSD Employee:
I shared last week that SFUSD promptly took action to rectify the error with our 2022 quarterly wage reports. I am writing to inform you that we are on track, and to apprise you of our ongoing efforts.
On March 10, 2023, SFUSD submitted the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarterly state payroll tax reports to the Employment Development Department (EDD). We learned in this process that there is a small number of employees whose files require additional attention. For quality assurance, SFUSD is actively reviewing and will submit these files no later than Friday, March 17, 2023 to EDD.
EDD will reconcile the reports they receive with the tax withholdings SFUSD paid to the state. EDD will then work with the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) to address the reported issues with employee tax filing and tax refunds. Due to a lag in the system’s processing time, you may still receive a notification from FTB in the meantime if you have filed your taxes. We will be following up with additional information as soon as possible.
I recognize that you may be frustrated and have questions associated with your individual tax filing. While SFUSD is not able to provide tax advice, we are in the process of gathering resources for our staff so that we can provide answers to frequently asked questions. We encourage you to consult with a trusted tax advisor and hope to provide more information on available resources soon.
In an effort to promote transparency, I will be in communication in the upcoming weeks to share any additional findings. Additional information, FAQs, and resources will also be published on www.sfusd.edu/2022PayrollTax.
I remain deeply disappointed by this issue and am humbled by the resilience of our community. Thank you for your continued commitment to SFUSD students and families.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matt Wayne, SFUSD Superintendent
