Dr. Christie Herrera launched her career as a Special Education Teacher in 2003 before advancing to the Oakland Unified School District as an Elementary Coordinator for the Special Education Department where she provided comprehensive support to students, families, and staff from birth through 5th grade. She has since held key leadership positions, including Principal, Director, and Executive Director of Early Learning, where she oversaw preschool and transitional kindergarten programs, with responsibilities spanning enrollment, budgeting, staffing, and community outreach. Christie is deeply committed to early childhood education as a catalyst for academic excellence, and she is dedicated to elevating educational quality and fostering meaningful inclusion for all young learners.
Christie holds a B.A. in Special Education from Gonzaga University with an Education Specialist Instruction Credential (MMSN and ESN) and an Administrative Services Credential. She received her M.A. in Educational Leadership and her doctorate in Education Leadership from Mills College.
