Wallenberg High School
Principal’s Newsletter
8/10/2020
Welcome back!! And welcome to all of our incoming freshman families and new families. While this is
not the start of school I envisioned, we are going to do everything we can to make this year successful
for all students. I am excited to start my first full year as principal at Wallenberg. Chris Rosenberg and
Tanya Harris are both returning as Assistant Principals. We have been back to work for a couple of
weeks preparing for teachers and students to return.
Classes will start on August 17th for all students. I have included several documents with this letter, one
is the bell schedule for distance learning. All students have 240 minutes of instructional time every day,
however, not all of this time will be “live” or in Zoom classes. The time allocated for each class includes
both the “in person” and “homework” time. It can be a little confusing, since everything is at-home work.
I have emailed a welcome letter to all students with information about the start of classes. I will be
reaching out to them later this week to let them all know where to find their Google Classrooms and
Zoom links. It is very important that you encourage your student to check their email. You can access
their email account through your ParentVue account. Students should also have access to StudentVue.
If you or your student has any questions about getting set up in ParentVue or StudentVue, please call
415-749-3469 and leave a message, someone will call you back to help.
Because we are not on campus, staff will be calling from their personal phones. Expect calls from
unfamiliar or blocked numbers. Our main school number (noted above) is a place where you can leave
a message. We will direct it to the right person and get back to you.
New student and Freshman orientation will be on Wednesday August 12 at 3:00 pm. Please email Principal Kelly for the Zoom link. This is the only orientation we are offering this fall, and we are prevented from recording it because students will be participating.
If you have requested technology from the district, we will be reaching out to schedule deliveries later
this week. If your student needs a computer or internet access in order to participate in school, please
complete this technology request survey. Please do not complete the survey more than once. If you
request technology and don’t hear from us by the end of this week, please call 415-749-3469 and leave
a message, or email me at kellyk1@sfusd.edu.
We are in the process of updating our website. Within the next two weeks it should be updated and
accurate for the 2020-21 school year. Here is the link, it is currently a work in progress: Wallenberg
Web Page
This year every student and family will be assigned a contact person on campus who will be checking
in regularly. The staff returns to work this week, and we will be working on getting this system up and
running over the first couple of weeks. Expect to hear from us the week of August 24. In the meantime,
if you have any pressing needs, feel free to call or email.
When school starts our first priority will be building community and relationships in our classes. I am a
firm believer that students are more successful in classrooms where they feel connected to and
supported by their teachers. We want to make sure that all students feel a part of the Wallenberg
community, even when we can’t be on campus. When we shut down last year, we learned that our
community doesn’t live in a building, it lives in all of us. Wallenberg had the second-highest rate of
student participation in online learning in the spring. I am incredibly proud of the teachers, students, and
families who made that happen.
I am glad to be a part of the Wallenberg community. Wallenberg students consistently impress me with
their intelligence, humor, kindness, and humanity. I am humbled that you entrust them to us, and I do
not take that trust lightly. If at any point in the year you have questions or needs, feel free to reach out
to me. I may not have the answers, but I will work to help find them.
Take care,
-Kim Kelly
