In celebration of Multicultural Week, Lafayette Administration and PTA have some events scheduled for the week, including cooking classes, contortionism presentation, origami class, and a lion dance. Please join us.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7 (SUPERBOWL SUNDAY)
COOKING LESSONS
Calling all Food Lovers! Join us for Lafayette Multicultural Cooking Lesson Zooms for Multicultural Week! Prepare some Superbowl snacks in the morning, eat during game time!
Wontons
10:30 AM - 12:00PM: Wonton making (so wontons can be eaten for lunch!) with Lafayette Parents Wynnie Wong and Karen Chow
Ingredients needed:
Pork Wontons
- 8 dried shiitake mushrooms
- 1 lb ground pork (20-30% fat)
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 ½ tbsp cornstarch
- ½ - ⅔ tbsp white pepper
- 1 tbsp yellow wine or rice wine
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp water or more to achieve the consistency
- 12 oz shrimp (no shells)
- Chicken broth
- 1 package wonton wrappers
- 1 egg and water (to seal wrappers
Soak dried shiitake mushrooms at least 6 hours ahead of time.
Vegetarian Wontons
- 1/2 cup firm tofu (mashed)
- 1 green onion (diced)
- 4 water chestnuts (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons carrot (shredded)
- 1 bok choy leaf (shredded)
- 1 egg (lightly beaten)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 pinch pepper
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons ginger (minced)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 45 wonton wrappers (or as needed)
- 3 to 4 cups oil (for deep-frying, as needed)
- Hoisin or soy sauce (for dipping, as needed)

3 teaspoons baking powder
5 ½ - 6 cups flour
1-2 small jars filling (apricot, prune or cherry preserves, poppy seed filling, etc.)

Serchmaa from the Mongolian Contortion Center will present contortion acts.
Year of the Ox origami with Ms. Tong
In celebration of Year of the Ox, come make an origami ox with Ms. Tong. Origami paper can be picked up from school on Friday, February 5.
Lion Dance: Ming Jo Athletic Association

LUNAR NEW YEAR: BOOK READING & ART ACTIVITY

Join Ms. Chue, Lafayette 1st grade teacher, as she reads a story about Lunar New Year and leads the students in making a Year of the Ox origami envelope or bookmark.
