Announcement Message
August 7, 2023
Dear Cleveland Families,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2023-2024 School Year at Cleveland Elementary! We are excited about this upcoming school year! We have been busy preparing for your children, with a primary focus on safety and learning, and hope they are ready for a great year of joy and learning.
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Marlon Escobar and have been the principal at Cleveland for the past four years. I consider working for this community a great honor and privilege. My work as an SFUSD educator for the last 18 years, including nine years as a teacher in both bilingual and dual-immersion classrooms, has solidified my passion and commitment to helping young people learn and foster the skills they will need to succeed not only in school, but also in life. I believe that by working together, in community, to support our students’ academic and social-emotional development, we will accomplish our goals this school year and beyond.
I am fortunate to once again be joined by Assistant Principal Lenar Ruiz for the third year. She has been an educator in K-5 public schools for 19 years including 10 years in the classroom in Vallejo and 7 years as an Instructional Coach in San Francisco. Lenar believes in helping build a positive, thriving school community where each and every student feels supported, loved, and engages in joyful learning experiences.
I would like to welcome our new staff members to the Cleveland Community: Nikki Williams, Kindergarten General Ed, Sydney Flores Equihua, 3rd Grade Spanish Bilingual, and Tara Benhudijiras, 5th Grade General Ed. We welcome back the team from Mission Graduates, our after school program and are fortunate to have Ely Jeronimo and Gaby Villanueva returning as the program directors.
Attached you will find important information to get ready for the new school year. Please note we have an early release on Wednesdays at 2:30pm. On the first day of school, we will send home a packet of forms to be completed and returned by the end of the first week, the most important of which is your child’s emergency card which you will find in this mailed packet and should be returned on the first day.
I look forward to seeing you all on the first day of school and getting to know new families at our school. We highly encourage all students to test for Covid-19 via home kit or PCR before the first day of school. If you have any questions or concerns at any time throughout the school year, please don’t hesitate to contact the school. I will continue to hold our monthly Principal’s Chats and send home Cleveland Peacemaker Newsletters every Wednesday via electronic forms of communication to keep you informed about important dates and upcoming events. We also invite you to participate in any one of our parent activities and organizations, including our English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) and the School Site Council (SSC).
Together we will ensure that all of our students succeed and have a great 2023-2024 school year.
Warmly,
Marlon Escobar, Principal
