Announcement Message
Dear Alamo School Community:
SFUSD faces significant budget cuts at the district level and a drastic reduction of student services if we do not consolidate our resources. Tough decisions that are on the horizon to balance our budget. In some circumstances, we must explore whether we can best meet student needs by consolidating schools. We are going to begin meeting with school communities that meet our criteria for closing or merging, and as part of that process we have identified potential welcoming schools.
I am reaching out to let you know that Alamo Elementary School has been identified as a possible welcoming school for Sutro Elementary School’s General Education program students next year. This letter serves as the beginning of our conversation to help you understand why your school is being considered as a welcoming school. We will be engaging with school communities in the next few weeks, so please stay tuned for updates.
I will share a final recommendation on your school’s future only after engaging with your school community. I will present my recommendation at the Nov. 12, 2024 Board of Education meeting, and the Board of Education will not take action on my recommendation until its meeting on Dec. 10, 2024. Should your school serve as a welcoming school next year, we are committed to supporting you and your students through this change. We also have developed a transition plan detailing resources and next steps. You can learn more about this at SFUSD.edu.
For more information on why Alamo is one of the schools being considered as a welcoming school, please read this update regarding our criteria and process.
Please know that I am deeply committed to working with you as we navigate these changes and move toward a brighter future for SFUSD.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matt Wayne, Superintendent
