Announcement Message
What: RFEP Progress Monitoring forms will be emailed in an attachment on the week of 4/29/2024 to ELA teachers of reclassified students who exited the EL program between July 2019 to June 2023. Only students not making adequate progress (low GPA or failed course or low proficiency on reading assessment) are identified for monitoring this SY. On April 25th, this Illuminate report will update with only RFEP students who are not making progress at your school.
The form contains four questions about the reclassified student’s English proficiency and academic progress. Teachers can recommend interventions for students not making satisfactory progress.
Why: Former EL students are federally required to be monitored for their academic progress for at least four years to ensure that 1) they have not been prematurely exited, 2) any academic deficit they incurred as a result of participation in the EL program have been remedied; and 3) the students are meaningfully participating in the standard instructional program comparable to their never-EL peers.
When: The RFEP progress monitoring forms (previously known as RFFs) are due May 17th.
Where: The collected data will be stored in the student’s record on Synergy. School sites no longer need to file completed forms into students’ cumulative folders, as was required previously. Any strategy or intervention recommended for a student will be uploaded into a report and shared with relevant school staff in the next school year.
Note: Some middle and high school ELA teachers are assigned to complete RFFs for 10+ students. Given the large volume, the teachers may require support and/or input from other school staff (ie. Lit Coach, IRF, EL coordinator, or other content teachers).
Questions about this process, please reach out to Sukei Lao, laos@sfusd.edu.
