What is Inclusive Schools Week?

Inclusive Schools week provides an opportunity for SFUSD educators and community members to teach students about disabilities and the intersection of disabilities with other categories of identity, like race, gender, class, cultural heritage, language preference and other differences. The week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students and parents to discuss what else needs to be done in order to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate and include all children.

Activities and Resources for 2023:

• 2023 Featured Event: Access Hour at the Children's Creativity Museum. Hosted in partnership by: SFUSD, Support for Families, Children's Creativity Museum.  On Saturday, December 9th from 9:00-10:00am the Children's Creativity Museum will host an inclusive celebration surrounding this year's theme of "Draw Me In." More details to come, but registration is open here!
• Inclusion books in ALL K-5 and K-8 Libraries. SFUSD aims to ensure that every school's library collection "reflects inclusion and diversity including, but not limited to: materials by or about people of color; with a range of ethnicities, religions, languages, and cultures, people who identify as LGBTQ, family diversity, gender equity, and people with disabilities." • SFUSD Physical Education and Activity department and Special Olympics Northern California provide resources and activities throughout Inclusive Schools Week (December 4th - 8th). We are asking all PE teachers to provide 1-2 inclusive lesson plans throughout the week.
