WHAT: SFUSD Student and Family Services Division (SFSD) in cooperation with the California Department of Education will be administering the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) online in grades 6, 7, 9, and 11 in randomly chosen 2nd period classrooms in SFUSD schools during the fall of the 2023- 2024 school year.
Survey Content. The survey asks questions related to local youth health risks and behaviors, school connectedness, school climate, protective factors, and school violence.
WHY: SFUSD uses the results of the survey to continue to improve health education programs and support services for students in our district. The CHKS is part of a comprehensive data-driven decision-making process on improving school climate and student learning environment for overall school improvements.
WHEN: CHKS will be administered in November and December 2023. The CHKS is administered every other year.
NEXT STEPS:
- The Student and Family Services Division (SFSD) will distribute copies of the Parent/Caregiver Notification and survey implementation instructions to your school
- Second period classroom teachers will distribute the Parent/Caregiver Notifications to the families of the students in their randomly chosen classes
- Further instructions will be emailed directly to the school administrator before the start of the survey implementation
